How to Bring in an Income Without a Job

There are so many people around the country who have experienced job loss over the past year or so due to the pandemic. Whether you had to close down your business, got laid off or lost your job due to another circumstance, it can be stressful to think about where to go next and how to stay afloat financially. While you are looking for a new job, there are a few different steps that you can take to help get yourself back on track and make some extra money. Check out a few of our suggestions here:

  • Apply for unemployment. First and foremost, if you do not foresee yourself getting another job quickly, you should apply for unemployment. Applying for unemployment will help provide some support to you temporarily as you are in between jobs. This is by no means a permanent solution; however, it is a good way to collect some money. It is also important to note that applying for unemployment will not affect your credit negatively.
  • Sell items online. A great way to make some extra money while also decluttering is by selling items online. Whether you choose to move forward with eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or an app such as Poshmark, there are many different online tools that you can use to list items that you no longer need or want in your home.
  • Reevaluate your monthly expenses. This is also a good time to check out all of your monthly expenses and see where you might be able to cut down. For example, perhaps during this time you pause your streaming services or actively charge less on your credit cards.
  • Put on your entrepreneurial hat! Lastly, if you have any creative juices flowing, think about ways that you can bring out your entrepreneurial spirit and perhaps start your own small business. Think about your passions and what you genuinely enjoy working on, and see how you can make your dreams into a reality!
